Inventions (patents)
What is a patent?
A patent is an exclusive right granted for an invention, which is
a product or a process that provides a new way of doing
something, or offers a new technical solution to a problem.
What does a patent do?
A patent provides protection for the invention to the owner of
the patent. The protection is granted for a limited period,
generally 20 years.
The Patent Cooperation Treaty (P C T)
The Patent Cooperation Treaty simplifies and reduces the cost
of obtaining international patent protection and facilitates public
access to a wealth of technical information relating to
inventions. By filing one international patent application under
the PCT you can simultaneously seek protection for an invention
in over one hundred countries, including developing countries,
throughout the world.
